Conference Interpreting

interlanguage supplies interpretation services for conventions, meetings, press conferences and events for large or small audiences.

Conference interpretation can be divided into three basic types of service:

Simultaneous interpretation

The interpreter listens to the speaker on a receiver (headset) in a soundproof booth and simultaneously interprets into a microphone; the audience listens to the interpretation on headphones or earpieces. This technique makes it possible to interpret in real time, in several languages simultaneously and without any form of constraint on the speaker; this makes it suitable for conventions, press conferences, and round tables, also when followed by questions from the floor. Two interpreters are needed in each booth, working in alternation for no longer than seven hour periods, and one booth is needed for each language. The presence of just one interpreter in each booth is only possible if the service time is no longer than one hour.
In addition to the interpreters, interlanguage also supplies the simultaneous interpretation system.

Consecutive interpretation

This is a delayed interpreting technique. The interpreter summarises the speaker’s talk in the target language only at intervals of 5 or 10 minutes. This technique is therefore appropriate when a simultaneous interpretation system is not available, for a small number of participants, and for just one foreign language. Inevitably this technique increases the duration of the event. Normally a half-day session can be handled by one interpreter, while two interpreters are needed for a full day event. The professional profile required is the same as that of the simultaneous interpreter.

Whispered interpretation
Whispered interpretation (chuchotage in French) is a form of whispered simultaneous interpreting of a speaker for the benefit of one or two people. The interpreter stands close to the listener or listeners. This solution is suboptimal for the other participants in the meeting, who may be disturbed by the whispering, and it is also extremely demanding, both for the interpreter and the listener. Whisper interpretation is therefore recommended only for emergencies or very short periods. This technique is one of the skills of a simultaneous interpreter.

Our interpretation service is certified in compliance with Italian industry standard UNI 10574:2007.
