In accordance with Art. 55 of Italian Law L.N. 89/1913, the interpreter must possess the necessary qualifications to act as a witness and must swear oath before the Notary to faithfully discharge his or her official duties.

Normally, the agenda of such meetings calls for both superior language skills and precise specific training, because in this case the interpretation assumes legal validity. Therefore, in order to prepare for the meeting the interpreter must be informed in advance of the topics to be addressed.

This type of service calls for the utmost interpretation accuracy: the interpretation must be faithful and neutral, without omissions, additions, or inaccuracies, and in strict compliance with the language register utilised by the parties.

The interpreter must also have a good knowledge of the Italian legal system and the legal system of the working language country, plus a highly developed sense of responsibility. The interpreter works with absolute impartiality and confidentiality, and is always conscious of the potential consequences of interpretation errors.
