Marketing Translations

In advertising, even more than in other contexts, the literal translation of the words on the page is not enough. To give the translated message the same impact and weight as the original, the text has to be interpreted and reworked.
At the same time, the text often has to be localised, i.e. adapted to the culture and society of the target country. If a strategy or concept is developed for international use, it should ideally be conceived from the outset to be adaptable to even widely differing contexts. Puns or references to events or personalities of national prominence often lose all meaning on translation, and should be avoided. If this is not possible, the translation will use alternatives that convey the author’s meaning and reach the target just as effectively as the original message.
