The desktop publishing (DTP) service delivers translations already inserted in the source file, with the original layout. It is requested for catalogues, operator’s manuals and any other communications materials not produced in a simple word processing format (.doc, .ppt, .xls, etc.).
This service is particularly important since the insertion of foreign-language texts into complex layouts is a process with many pitfalls, and expert knowledge is required.
interlanguage has established an excellent reputation on the DPT market thanks to its ability in handling multilingual texts in the most commonly used graphic formats, including InDesign, FrameMaker, PageMaker, Illustrator, Office Publisher, Quark XPress, etc.
We guarantee that our software is kept constantly up to date with the latest versions on the market and also includes the most widely used earlier releases, in both Macintosh and Windows environments. This aspect is fundamental for the correct management of font families on the Macintosh and Windows systems, especially when switching between platforms.
We also use text export and import systems developed in part by our own IT department, to convert and share these contents in different environments. We interface with our clients’ Content Management Systems, providing our linguistic advisory service and managing texts in xml format in complete compatibility with their systems.
Translations are laid out in compliance with the graphic conventions in the target language and the result is submitted to the expert linguist for final approval. We check that the texts are placed in the right positions, that they are not too short or too long compared to the original or any other translations on the same page, and that any hyphenation is correct. Finally, we make sure that the layout produced is also attractive to look at.
We have gained great experience in particular with Asian languages (simplified and traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean) as well as Arabic, for which we have localised versions of programs.
For the DTP service, interlanguage exclusively uses in-house personnel. This way, the confidentiality of client material is protected internally by interlanguage and its contents are traceable over time, with the customer being able to benefit directly from this at any moment.
