A key area of activity for manufacturers, Technical publishing calls for the adoption of specific translation solutions if it is to be managed correctly.

When customers supply files in Word, manuals can be translated by simply overwriting the source text, but companies frequently generate their literature using specific applications (Xpress, FrameMaker, Content Management systems...) so the translation process must be followed by a phase in which the translated text is returned to the customer's native file format.

Another area of activity strictly correlated to technical publishing is the translation of software applications, because today’s machinery and plant is invariably equipped with electronic control systems requiring specific and professionally executed localisation of display messages.

Terminology management and, wherever possible, computer assisted translation are indispensable tools to guarantee high quality results while rationalising the times and costs typically associated with the translation process.

Each translation job is assigned to a project team composed of:
  • translators
  • proofreaders
  • project manager
  • supervisor

Translators work exclusively into their native language and are selected according to area of specialisation and type of source text.
Translators are fully supported by our in-house language resources, based on an ISO 9001 / UNI 10574 certified quality system and subject to a continuous improvement regime. This level of support ensures that each translator receives selected reference material and specific customer terminology when available.

Proofreaders assess translations for completeness, syntax, style, terminology, interpretation and layout, editing the text wherever necessary. All our proofreaders have translation and language qualifications and have worked as professional translators.

The project manager acts as a coordinator for translator, proofreader and customer. In multiple language assignments the project manager assumes overall responsibility for the job and acts as a reference person for the customer. Like other staff members, project managers are qualified translators, with specific professional training in quality and project management systems.

Supervisors represent the top management level, offering a senior level of support for basic translation project teams whenever the need arises.

interlanguage has also recently established an in-house legal translations section, coordinated by a specialised legal linguist, to handle our legal translations.
